Short and sweet
In this February 2026 update, we have a Blue update, a foster fail, new items in the store and a look ahead at spring TNR.
Cats in care
Blue
You may remember from last month’s update we were going to have Blue run through a CT to see if we could pinpoint the cause of his chronic diarrhea. Unfortunately, the funds just aren’t there to have this done and still have enough to continue to TNR the managed areas and provide ongoing medication and nutrition supplements Blue needs. Until the WLCA bank account has accrued another 2k, it’s just not in the cards. Blue is not in a life, or death, situation, but I know I wouldn’t want to have chronic diarrhea. In the meantime, Blue is on additional supplements (Denamarin ($50/month), S. Boulardii probiotic ($0.25/day) and psyllium husk). He will continue to get quarterly liver bloodwork to ensure it doesn’t continue to creep up back into the danger zone.
Jaspurr
After a couple of months with his foster family, Jaspurr has been able to befriend the resident cats and I’m happy to inform everyone he is going to be a foster fail! Yay! It turns out he gets along so well with the family’s youngest cat that the two of them focus on each other and leave the snarky ladies alone. It’s a win for everyone! Congrats!
Miki
Miki continues to make good progress with his people and he has lost some weight on his canned food-only diet. He is also great friends with Shadow, who pretends to like him, but really just wants his food, lol!
New at Mia’s Emporium…
There are two, brand new items donated just today: a knife set and a silicone portion set perfect for freezing and bagging ingredient and meals. Check out the store in case you, or someone you know, are interested. Shop now!
Feral kittens and homeless cats
You’ll recall a trio of older kittens on one of the WLCA managed blocks. It turns out one of the cats is the mother of the other two. She’s not a lot larger than her offspring, but since she had a swinging tummy, we know she’s not a kitten. These three were not interested in my traps when I went out to try to get them. Oh, they were definitely wanting the bait, but they were smart, and wary, enough not to enter the traps. There I hid in my car, trying to see what they were doing and they creeped right up to the car door and stared at me while I sat perfectly still. They didn’t buy it. They knew there was a human in there up to no good. So, this trio will be a spring TNR project once temperatures are appropriate and TNR 2026 is underway. I’m sure there will be more kittens as there are two females and I’ll just have to work a little harder this year. This is one of the reasons why I can’t blow the bank on Blue. The need is so great.
In addition, my trail camera was stolen from the property where I had hidden it (thankfully I had taken the card out of it), and had to buy a new one. Fortunately, I had been donated a couple of gift cards that took care of that. The stolen camera was about 15 years old, so it didn’t owe me anything. Happy it lasted that long. Hope this one is even better.
