What do I do for an injured/sick cat?
Contain the cat and transport in a carrier. Sick and injured cats can go to the Winnipeg Humane Society (45 Hurst Way). If you do not have access to transportation, and the cat is contained, call the WHS Animal Emergency line at 204-982-2020 between 8 am and 10 pm. Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital (400 Pembina Hwy) is an alternative after WHS is closed.
My cat is missing. What do I do?

I’ve found a cat. What do I do?
Read our Found resource. It will guide you through the process of trying to locate the cat’s family.
I’ve found kittens. What do I do?
Please view our Kittens resource! Complete with videos to care for them, you’ll be on your way to helping them the best you can.
I saw a deceased cat? What should I do?
If you can safely pick the cat up, bring them to the Winnipeg Humane Society during business hours. Some clinics will also accept a deceased cat. Please call ahead. Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital at 400 Pembina Hwy is an option overnight. If the cat is on public property, and you are unable to transport, note the exact location and call 311 or email 311@winnipeg.ca to report for pickup (may take 48 hours). The city will not pick up on private property.
How do I report animal cruelty/neglect?
For animal cruelty, within Winnipeg, please call the WHS Animal Emergency Line at 204-982-2020. Direct an animal welfare concern, within Winnipeg, to WHS Animal Protection at 204-982-2028 or 204-945-8000. For cruelty outside of Winnipeg, call 1-888-945-8001. Can I bring you guys a cat I found?
Winnipeg Lost Cat Assistance is not a shelter and has no physical address to house cats. We operate entirely on the kindness of foster homes and are limited in the number of cats we can care for. Please have a look at our Found resource for your options.
Where can I get a cheap spay/neuter?
Check out our Spay/Neuter resource, or drop us a line and describe your situation. We’ll point you in the right direction.
I can’t afford a vet? What do I do?
Depending on your situation, the Winnipeg Humane Society may be able to help. Call 204-982-2021 to speak to someone who will be able to provide you with current information. For immediate medical attention (injury/critical illness), please call 204-982-2020 to speak with an animal protection officer.
I need to rehome a cat. What do I do?
Access our Rehoming resource! It will guide you through the application, interview and adoption agreement process. Included are relevant forms and a cat-care guide for the new family.
Can you rescue a cat for me?
Please contact us with details of the situation! We will do our best to help you and the cat.
Do you take owner-surrendered cats?
Typically, we do not. To find out what you can do, fill out our contact form and we will do our best to help.
I have feral cats. What can I do?

Can I get a tax receipt?
Winnipeg Lost Cat Assistance is a non-profit organization. We are not a registered charity and cannot provide tax receipts for donations.
